WESTWEEK 2014 Delivers Best-in-Class Design

With nearly 4,000 interiors professionals in attendance during its annual two-day Spring Market, PDC’s WESTWEEK 2014 was the global epicenter for best-in-class design. More than 25 internationally revered tastemakers and design authorities, including: Thomas Beeton, Michael Berman, Mario Buatta, Timothy Corrigan, Ken Fulk, Alexa Hampton, Jiun Ho, Kerry Joyce, Kit Kemp, Christopher Kennedy, Laura Kirar, Richard Landry, James Magni, Sarah Richardson, Andrew Skurman, Roger Thomas and Suzanne Tucker joined in conversation with editors from the nation’s leading shelter publications, including California Homes, Interior Design, Interiors Magazine, T: The New York Times Style Magazine and Robb Report Home & Style Magazine, delivering top-notch educational programming to inform and engage attendees. A robust schedule of more than 100 showroom product introductions, events and lectures complemented the four power-house keynote presentations providing a comprehensive Market experience for designers attending from across the nation and around world.

A highlight to WESTWEEK was the invitation-only 2014 Stars of Design and Stars on the Rise Awards. Presided over by Charles S. Cohen, President and Owner of Pacific Design Center, the annual ceremony honors Southern California’s most prolific talents for their accomplishments, commitment to excellence and contributions to their profession across the creative disciplines. 2014 honorees included Doug Aitken (Art), Alison Berger (Product Design), Timothy Corrigan (Interior Design), Agustin Garza (Graphic Design), Art Gray (Photography) and Robert Truskowski (Landscape Design). Stars on the Rise included Joseph Dangaran, Tyler Dawson, Tamara Kaye-Honey and Brett Woods.

Pacific Design Center was mentioned on The Droste Effect Magazine:

Located in the prestigious Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, Young Project Gallery—a 8,000 sq. ft. versatile project space—serves both as an exhibitions platform for video artists and a laboratory for moving image experiments. Its owner, the acclaimed curator, filmmaker, and journalist Paul Young—the author of Art Cinema (Taschen, 2009)—, dedicated his entire career to the investigation and the promotion of video and moving image design as a consistent art practice. Thanks to its high-quality exhibition program and persistent advocacy efforts, Young Projects Gallery is today the most important catalyst for video art on the West Coast. Moreover, it is one of the very few spaces in the world to be devoted exclusively to the circulation of an artistic medium whose commercialization—unlike its appreciation—is still scarcely widespread.

The Gift of Art, Really

Pacific Design Center was mentioned on KCRW’s podcast:

Start with Young Projects in the Pacific Design Center. Paul Young specializes in showing video art but right now has a Christmas clearance of prints, DVD’s, t-shirts as well as some unique pieces. I was tempted by Colin Roberts’ surreal drawings and sculptures for less than $100. If you loved Marnie Weber’s MOCA installation, Giggle of Clowns, as I did, you can buy one of her rare music CD’s including her appearances with downtown LA’s art/punk band the Party Boys.

Also at the PDC, the See Line Gallery is having a moving sale offering many of their smaller works of work at reduced prices including architectural drawings by Eamon O’Kane.
