The Language of Gregg Fleishman

This exhibition presents a variety of products conceived over a period of thirty years by Los Angeles native architect and artist, Gregg Fleishman. Using mostly modular components made out of structural plywood or rowder-cut sheets of finished multi-layer birch plywood, which becomes flexible and can be shaped, folded, and transformed with minimal non-qualified labor, Fleishman creates innovative comfortable seating. The exhibition includes s c u l p t C H A I R S, TOYS Modular, Portable PLAYGROUNDS, Disaster EMERGENCY HOUSING, and preliminary studies for MOON SETTLEMENTS.
M.L. Snowden Master Sculptor Ultimate Protégé of Rodin

Master sculptor M.L. Snowden’s technique comes from four generations of internationally known sculptors including Auguste Rodin, Robert Eberhard, and George Snowden. Inspired daily from Rodin’s actual hand made sculpture tools and learned working methods she communicates universal truth through visual language. Among her inspirational works, Snowden created a composition of Angels which is a part of Los Angeles Cathedrals main altar. Her sculpture “Cataclasis” has been accepted into the permanent collection of the White House.

An exhibit of drawings, renderings, models and video, Treehouses in Paradise is an exquisite showcase by over 100 architects from 40 countries. A celebration of creativity in design from around the world, this special installation coincides with the Abrams publication of the book by the same name, organized by David Greenberg. The book “Treehouses in Paradise” has created a lot of excitement both in the press (being featured in many publications from Dwell to the New York Times) and at the bookstores as it became available this month due to its unique subject matter but mainly because it shows a side of an architects creative genius not often seen particularly from so many countries. The designs often focus on the Green side, using material and systems and ideas that aim to a more ecological future as well. It is also a book about the potential of fantasy and imagination in design not often seen.

This exhibition includes a selection of photographs from Owens' classic 1973 book, Suburbia, which explored the burgeoning townships that sprung up around Livermore, California. Comprised entirely of photographs from MOCA's collection, Bill Owens: Suburbia offers a glimpse into the suburban way of life
that began to exert a powerful influence on American culture in the early 1970s. The exhibition is curated by MOCA Curatorial Associate Rebecca Morse.
